- Wed. 10/16/19: FINAL TEST ON BEOWULF
- It will be an essay test (discussion of essay expectations)
- You will be allowed to use YOUR text of the epic poem (no notes, handouts, etc.)
- You will be given three topics and you will be required to write full essays on two of the three topics in the class period.
- Monday, 10/14/19 at 8 pm: I will have a live online study session (YouTube). I will Tweet the link and post it to the weblog / Google Classroom an hour beforehand. You will have the opportunity to send me questions via chat, Twitter, or email. The session will last about an hour. Have your study pack (list below) ready!

- Sample essay topics:
- Trace the significance of (character/concept) through the epic poem.
- Given a quote from a Beowulf scholar, agree or disagree using evidence from the text.
- Given a concept from the Halverson article, explain or defend/challenge it.
- Given a quote from the text of Beowulf, indicate who said it, the purpose, and the significance of the statement to the work as a whole.
- Given a new concept, evaluate the extent to which that concept is present in the epic poem.
- Given a subject like honor or trust, explain a theme that is learned about that subject through Beowulf.
